Norman was born in Penang, Malaysia, he moved to the United Kingdom in 1994 to study Quantity Surveying. After graduated with Honours, he worked in the construction industry for 9 years before switching his career to a full time chef. He opened up his first restaurant in Manchester in 2006 and York in 2012, followed by two more in Malaysia in 2014 and 2016. In 2010, Norman joined the Formula One Lotus team travelling around the world to cook for the team.
He was featured in Masterchef Malaysia, BBC’s Tom Kerridge Best Ever Dishes and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch and has been in numerous magazines in UK and Malaysia. He was offered to host his first 13-episode cooking show ‘Ala Carte’ for Malaysian TV channel NTV7. His second show ‘Exploring Malaysian Herbs with Chef Norman Musa was aired on Malaysian channel Tvi in 2016. His third and latest cooking show, ‘Jelajah Aroma’ filmed in the UK is aired in 2018 on Malaysian TV Channel, OKEY (Astro 109) . The show is available to watch online (link on his website).
He was appointed as the Kuala Lumpur Food Ambassador in 2015 by the KL Mayor to promote Kuala Lumpur as the gastronomic city to the European market. He curated the KL Big Kitchen Festival, the foodie festival and handpicked the local and international chefs to run cooking demonstrations and cookery classes. Norman has written 3 cookbooks – self published ’Malaysian Food’, ‘Resipi Chef Norman’ and the award winning, Amazing Malaysian.
2018 – He is currently active teaching Malaysian cuisine at top cookery schools in UK and will be adding the Dutch cookery Keizer Culinair, where he will be cooking in Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam. He launched his Malaysian Supper Club private dining experience in London, Birmingham, Rotterdam and Dublin. His next project is to collaborate with established restaurants in European cities to continue his campaign in promoting Malaysian cuisine AND going overseas at the end of 2018 to promoot Malaysian Cuisine in the United States!
